China National Genebank (Shenzhen) is a mountainous building consisting of two functional blocks, i.e., biological resource sample library and biological information database, and, after completion, it will become the largest gene research and data storage centre in domestic.

Located at the foot of Maluan Mountain in Dameisha Beach of Yantian District, Shenzhen, the project is embraced by mountains, and enjoys superior natural landscape conditions. Its design has solved the complicated functional combinations of database, laboratory building, R&D centre and their supporting facilities, introduced the concept of “Lichen Architecture” to “create atmosphere based on landscape”, and attempted to provide for the users an open scene without any clear boundary and with life extensions, where people can freely walk, run, exchange, study, meet, dine and have a rest.
