The birth of the “Rockbund” reconstruction project is based on the retention and renovation of 15 existing excellent historical architectures and a batch of other historical architectures built in different styles in different ages and shaping the overall historical and cultural styles and features of the Bund with excellent architectures.
The Bund keeps the imprints of times left by numerous people with lofty ideals, and each and every architecture designed and built on the Bund represents a crystallization of the most advanced engineering techniques of the age which witnessed their birth. The entire Shanghai Rockefeller Group Rockbund project, jointly designed by CCDI and the US ARQ, consists of the repair and renovation of some historical architectures and the design and construction of some new architectures, injects a diversified range of functions (commerce, office, hotel, apartment, cultural exchange, etc.) into this area, and aims to create a large-scale high culture and fashion life center, reshape the urban glamor on the water banks of the Huangpu River and the Suzhou River, inject new vitality into the Bund and attract both domestic and overseas talents to work, live and enjoy their life here. Meanwhile, a coordinated and balanced urban relation is proposed to be established between Lujiazui and the Bund.
