The design idea of the stadium is derived from the dynamic ripples on the water surface, which extend in the pattern of crescents and emphasize openness and landscape penetration. The open-style stadium has a highly transparent facade, and its seating area is largely arranged on the west stand which enjoys the best view of games, remote seascape and other landscapes in the park. Its roof is made of spatial cable-truss supporting system covered by PTFE architecture membrane material, and is organically combined with the crescent-shaped building, achieving the high integration of strength and beauty.
The design ideas of the gym and the natatorium are derived from free and extended gray spaces and from elliptical mathematical models deduced on the basis of the Pythagorean theorem and multiple circle centres; it is free but not too random, and also rational and logic, having a concise symmetric beauty. Under the illumination of light, the lightweight and exquisitely carved circular colonnades create an atmosphere of the bamboo forests frequently seen in the south of the Yangtze River, implying the traditional local culture of “steadily high”.
After completion, the sports centre can not only be used to hold national single-event competitions and regional comprehensive competitions, but also used to serve mass fitness and large-scale concerts, ceremonies, conferences & exhibitions, and so forth.
