Harbin West Railway Station & Transit Hub is the place where International Station Conference 2012 was held.
Adoption in the project of special designs targeting buildings in severe cold regions: Starting with the actual conditions of Harbin West Railway Station & Transit Hub and taking into account the thermal insulation, freeze-proof, snow-proof and ice-proof demands under the special climate and extreme weathers, we have provided the technical measures of ceramic plate-glass outer curtain wall design, metal roof design, interior environment design, heating and ventilation design and detailed design, with the purpose of maximally ensuring the comfort of passengers in the station and the driving safety nearby.

Lighting design:
There is a concealed light belt on each side of the scuttle, and the nighttime lighting assists in embodying its arc-shaped spatial structural form, weakening its facade scale and achieving a lighter overall design.
Architectural design:
• The brownish red ceramic plate and warm-colored stone materials create a warm atmosphere in the urban living room and reduces people’s psychological feeling of coldness.
• The main building of the station adopts an arc-shaped structure, characterized by high economical efficiency and rationality.
• The smooth and dynamic curves on the facade are highly symbolic with distinct local characteristics, tallying with the traditional architectures in Harbin and also presenting a sense of modernness.
• The arc-shaped structure designed in the main waiting hall to bear the snow load on the roof provides an arc-shaped indoor space characteristic of severe cold regions.
• The main building of the station adopts an arc-shaped structure, characterized by high economical efficiency and rationality.
• The smooth and dynamic curves on the facade are highly symbolic with distinct local characteristics, tallying with the traditional architectures in Harbin and also presenting a sense of modernness.
• The arc-shaped structure designed in the main waiting hall to bear the snow load on the roof provides an arc-shaped indoor space characteristic of severe cold regions.
Structural design:
Adoption in the project of the super-long reinforced concrete structure for severe cold regions: In line with the provisions of Article 8.1.1 of the Code for design of concrete structures, a structure above 55m in size should be designed with an expansion joint, however, to meet the functional demands of the building, this structure’s largest temperature segment has a length of 220m.
M&E design:
It is an organically-connected urban transit hub complex integrating multiple means of transportation like railway, urban rail transit, urban public transportation, social transportation, etc.
1) Water supply and drainage
• Characteristics of super-large buildings in severe cold regions, ensuring equipment, pipe safety, water saving and energy saving design and covering whole-process control (construction cost, quality, etc.)
• Special fire control design with a super-large space, gas fire control design for four electric machine rooms, and siphon rainwater drainage system design for metal roof.
2) M&E system
Power distribution system design for large-size transportation buildings, super-large space lighting design, intelligent emergency evacuation lighting system design, and lightning protection and grounding system design for four electric machine rooms.

Curtain wall design:
Adoption of microporous aluminum plates for airtight joint for the lower suspended ceiling of the roof truss, and use of modularized triangular perforated aluminum plates for joint right under the scuttle, signifying an abstract form of snow flakes and ice crystals
