In 1998, the team led by Zhao Xiaojun won the bid of this nearly 50,000m2 large-scale exhibition hall; nine months later, the Phase I project of Shenzhen China Hi-tech Fair Exhibition Centre was completed at a typical “Shenzhen Speed” and embraced the First Shenzhen China Hi-tech Fair. Having completed its construction and installation within seven months and controlled its construction cost at 5,000 RMB/m2, it has truly realized the high unification between art and technology as well as between economic benefits and social benefits. Since its completion, it has been used to hold many international fairs of vital significance for the economic development of Shenzhen or even the whole country. It was also rated as one of the top 10 landscapes in Shenzhen, and appeared on Chinese stamps circulated all over the country in 2000. In 2006, with the completion of the new Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Centre, the old Shenzhen China Hi-tech Fair Exhibition Centre concluded its historical task, and was entirely moved to Longgang District, emptying out the site for constructing the new building of Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE). However, its highly-praised architectural image will always live in the heart of Shenzhen residents.
